In fairness with a bit more luck in front of goal they might have taken something from the game.
But at the same time they need to stop gifting soft goals to the opposition. Longside nearly made a dream start in the opening minute when Danton latched onto a short pass back only to be denied by the advancing Simpson and the Russell’s goal.
After five minutes Innes fired a shot just past the post with McDonald in the Longside goal beaten. Forbes then had the ball in the back of the Longside net but it was disallowed as the forward was offside.
A long ball over the Longside defence was latched onto by Forbes only for Davidson to bring him down 30 yards out - Innes blazing the resulting free kick over the bar.
The home side’s pressure finally paid off after 18 minutes when they went in front after Donaldson gave away a foul 20 yards out. Forbes curled the freekick beyond the wall past McDonald in goals.
Russell’s then doubled their lead five minutes later when Forbes had a shot brilliantly saved by McDonald but when the ball was returned goalwards he had the easiest of tasks tapping it home from six yards.
It was then Longside’s turn to have a goal disallowed for offside when Danton fired home after good work from Little. Danton got his head to a Buchan free kick but his effort was gathered by Simpson.
Park then sent Danton clear and lobbed the advancing keeper but Clunas got back to clear the danger.
Substitute Butcher then had a good chance to get Longside back into the game when he volleyed narrowly wide from 18 yards after his initial effort was saved by Simpson. Butcher then came even closer on 83 minutes when he latched onto a Danton flip 35 yards out and struck shot that came back off the bar with Simspon well beaten.
