Auntie Pops’ Picnic was the beginning of a new enterprise called Shape Up Peterhead that will also see the Family Fun Fit Club started in the town.

Organised by PJ Coutts, Shape Up Peterhead hopes to bring fitness through fun activities to the town while also bringing members of the community closer together.

Mr Coutts said: “The weather was an absolute disaster but I decided to go ahead with it anyway.

“I figured that kids don’t care about rain and it turned out to be the right choice as everyone had a great time.”

With a £3,800 grant from Your Voice Your Choice Mr Coutts will run the Family Fun Fit Club from 1pm to 2 pm every Saturday at the town’s leisure centre for £1.

Mr Coutts said: “It’s about getting people more active and having fun and games rather than just exercise.

“People should come along and realise that fitness doesn’t mean going to the gym and killing yourself for an hour.”

Mr Coutts also wants Shape Up Peterhead to revolve around community spirit and getting people in the town talking to one another.

He said: “Building community spirits will play a fundamental role in it.”
