Days here and there and fun trips are as much a part of North-east summers as agricultural shows and the haar - and you can add behind-the-scenes tours of His Majesty’s in Aberdeen to the list.
One of the must-sees for any visitors to the city as well as any self-respecting local resident, the summer season of 10.30am 75-minute-long Saturday tours will run on July 13 and 27, August 17 and 24 and September 7, 21 and 28.
On two of the Saturdays – September 7 and 28 – there is a second tour starting at 11.30am.
Free tours for schools and Individual tours for groups can also be organised separately, according to availability and scheduling, by contacting Aberdeen Performing Arts’ Creative Learning team on 01224 337684 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers take visitors through His Majesty’s modern £7.8m extension as well as the 106-year-old original building, designed by the legendary theatre architect Frank Matcham.
The tour explores the new and old sections of the city centre landmark, providing an opportunity to get onstage and see HMT from the eyes of a performer in one of the most beautiful theatres in Scotland.
Then it’s backstage to get a glimpse of the inner workings of a busy theatre – and pick up some inside knowledge of its spooky past.
The tours costs £5 (£3 concession) and can be booked through Aberdeen Box Office in person at the Music Hall or His Majesty’s Theatre or by phone on 01224 641122. They are subject to availability and sell out very quickly.s
