Peterhead’s Fishermen’s Mission has teamed up with local fish shop Zanre’s for an exciting new fundraising event.
‘Fish Friday’ has been a popular event on the calendar for many fishermen’s missions across the country, but has never really been rolled out in the Blue Toon.
Now, however, new Mission Superintendent Steve Murray has embraced the fundraiser and has teamed up with Zanres, and the support of a number of local trawlers, to hold Fish Friday on June 21.
Steve told the Buchanie: “Fish Friday has always been big elsewhere, but never in Peterhead, so we thought we’d give it a go and see how it goes.
“Several trawlers and fishing businesses have come on board to provide us with the raw material, so we would like to thank the Harvest Hope, Ocean Venture II, Budding Rose, Lapwing and Sustainable Fish.
“We’d also like to thank Zanre’s who will be frying and selling the delicious fish for just £10 for two suppers, from 2pm to 8pm, with half of the proceeds from the sales going towards Mission funds.
“The Mission will remain open until 8pm on Friday so folk can purchase their fish suppers and take them down here to eat them along with free tea/coffee/juice, bread and butter,” he said.
An early tea special is also available where you can pre-book your fish and chips at the Mission and Zanre’s will deliver it at 4.45pm. Orders must be paid for at the time of the booking.
There will also be lunch at the Mission on the day serving up Cullen skink (with locally-sourced haddock), followed by strawberries and ice cream - also locally sourced from Mintlaw and St. Combs. The cost is only £4 for soup, sweet and a drink and this will be served from 11.30am to 1.30pm
