Pitsligo boys too good for Pana

IN the Victoria Coaches Cup, quarter-final, New Pitsligo had Panasonic Tavern as visitors at a wed and muddy park.

Panasonic started the better team but were failing to create any real chances. The first chance came from a Panasonic corner which was swung across by Alan Donaldson and hit by Paul Donaldson but straight at Simpson in the home goal. Up at the other end Davidson had a shot from distance but it sailed well over the bar.

On 15 minutes the home side took the lead against the run of play when a long throw-in from Whyte found Christie who shot home the opening goal. Back came Panasonic and Hossack was played in on goal and rounded Simpson in the home goals but his shot went too wide and his cross went out for a goal kick.

A good move by Michael Fraser and Gibby Stephen saw Fraser’s shot go narrowly past the post. A Panasonic attack ended with an Allan Donaldson cross which nearly crept in at the back post.

The away side did draw level just on the stroke of half time when a Hossack shot from outside the box came crashing back off the bar and Danny Booth was on hand to head home.

Pitsligo started the second half on the attack and from a James Fraser corner Stephen headed back across goal but Christie fired over the bar. Calum Davidson put the home side ahead after Whyte caught out Kris Keith and crossed for Davidson to fire home.

Davidson scored his second a few minutes later with a thunderbolt of a shot from outside the box which flew past Grant in the away goal.

Davidson got his hat-trick when Stephen was fouled in the box, up stepped Davidson to rifle home into the top corner of the net to make it 4-1. Reekie should have made it five but Grant made an excellent save.

Pitsligo now go forward to play Clinton Thistle in the semi-final next Saturday for a place in the final against Invercairn United.
