With over 200 names in the books, and averaging 60 people per night, Peterhead Boxing Club really packs a punch.
With classes for men, women and children of all ages, ability and fitness levels, the Club is perhaps the most inclusive around with something for everyone.
Local businesses have also prospered as a result of the Clubs operations which have generated over quarter of a million pounds since the Clubs re-launch in 2005.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Putting so much back into the Community in which we live and work is fantastic for the area, and there can’t be many non-profit Clubs that contribute so much to our Community.”
This Commitment has been recognised and the Club are well supported by local businesses, particularly by main sponsors Argyll Scaffolding and GGD Engineering, and major sponsor Phil Anderson Financial Services.
If you’re worried about getting hit, don’t! - people can attend to keep fit and learn boxing skills without participating in contests.
For those who progress and wish to practice the noble art competitively, they will be developed by a proven and structured regime that has produced many Champions.
The regime is delivered by trained and qualified Coaching staff who are enthusiastic and dedicated to the cause. There are only two licensed Boxing Clubs in the vast Aberdeenshire area, Peterhead being one, and Insch being the other which means the catchment area is generous, and the Club does their best to promote the sport within such catchment areas.
The Club meet and train at Peterhead Community Centre.
The success of the Club is down to the passion that the staff and members have for the sport and the Club.
Everyone involved with the Club are volunteers who give up their free time, which allows the Club to keep class fees low which is another incentive.
Boxing notoriously thrives in deprived areas, so it’s important to the organisation to keep costs low.
In addition to getting people fit, learning them how to defend themselves and providing them with the opportunity to excel in a tough sport, the classes provide a second home and a family for many members.
The teachings help build confidence and esteem, it allows people to de-stress after a difficult day - it’s an escape, youths with anger issues can vent their aggression in a safe and controlled environment.
The regimes are disciplined, it takes strong characters to succeed in the ESPN ranked toughest sport in the world, but that’s what the Club does – it builds people.
The Club is famous for the quality Boxing events that they stage, which provide an electric atmosphere and the opportunity to showcase the local talent whilst demonstrating the hard work that goes in to the Club.
The events are enjoyed by many, which also provide sponsorship, advertisement and networking opportunities for local companies.
The next Boxing event staged by the Club will take place at the Palace Hotel on Friday 5th June from 7pm – late.
Tickets cost £25 each, which includes 10 contests of Olympic style boxing, stovies at the interval and a raffle prize draw.
