Local clubs, organisations and supporters were invited along to see New Deer’s new all-weather sports facility recently.
The facility held an open night for those who supported the development on Monday, April 27.
Project co-ordinator and local community councillor Helen Young said: “We gave everyone a tour of the facility and they were treated to a cup of tea afterwards.
“Representatives from the local organisations joined the children’s kick about on the 3G all-weather surface which was a nice way to end the night.
“I took two days to get round everyone but I’m so pleased to get here and I was delighted to show people round the facility.”
The sports complex off Fordyce Road is powered with a combination os sustainable energy which includes solar panels and a ground source heat pump.
In 2003 the New Deer Community Association carried out extensive community consultation and an all weather sports facility was reported to be the top priority.
The new building has CCTV surveillance, two official rooms, a committee room with multipurpose kitchen and serving hatch.
Each of the four team changing rooms contains toilet and shower facilities.
Helen and her fellow project co-ordinators Bill Fowlie, Norman MacDonald and George Heatherwick.
Helen added: “We wouldn’t be where we are today without Aberdeenshire Council and our local councillors have been so supportive.
“We are currently trialling a booking system with a view to taking community bookings from Monday, June 8.”
