Peterhead Athletics Club members enjoyed a good day at the Fraserburgh 10k recently.

The conditions were challenging due to the wind but that did not stop Shelley Duncan finishing in third place overall in the ladies with a time of 40.22 and second place in her age group category.

Alan Reid was the club’s best overall male. He came home in an impressive 11th place.

Cameron Robertson from Peterhead, who is currently running for Metro Aberdeen, took second place in his age group as did Stewart Chalmers.

Club junior members were also in action recently when they took part in the activ schools organised Buchan Qualifier on Tuesday, May 26, at Catto Park.

This is a primary schools qualifier for the north east schools festival, which will be held at the town’s Catto Park on Wednesday June 17.

Club members provided event support by helping to officiate the event and providing medals.

The medal presentations provided a great finale to many exciting races and field events, which again were held in blustery conditions.

Meanwhile, during the last weekend in May club members took part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival.

The festival comprises of a 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon.

The marathon on the Sunday proved a challenge with the last eight miles into a strong wind.

Noneth less Maria Willox, Karen Runcie, Wilson Runcie, Barbara-Ann Needs, Jonathan Needs and Kim Taylor all achieved personal best times in the Marathon.

Have any of these stories inspired you to take up running as a hobby?

If you would like to get involved with Peterhead Athletics Club then why not go along and meet club members on a Tuesday between 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

Alternatively you can meet some of the members at the Peterhead Academy Summer Fayre, which will be held on Saturday, June 20.
