Ellon Academy’s senior netball team are celebrating after winning the league.
The team defeated Robert Gordon’s College 30-22 in the deciding fixture - a result which meant they finished the season unbeaten.
Team member Jordan Moore reports on the decider: “On February 20, Ellon Academy Netball Club faced the toughest
match of the league, Robert Gordon’s College (RGC). Knowing that this was the deciding match of the season, the whole team were very nervous.
“Despite this, we all knew we had to win. The first quarter got us off to a brilliant start. Notorious for taking a while to get into the game, we managed to break this habit and went into the second quarter leading 9-4.
“We all felt confident in our play but knew there was still hard work ahead. The gap closed slightly to 15-11 in the second quarter but we were still winning, slowly heightening our chances of a victory.
“Going into the third quarter the whole team were starting to feel fatigued, but this feeling was overruled by the determination and desire to win. At this point we were positive that as a team we had the capability to stay strong and maintain our lead.
“The 22-17 score at the end of the third quarter set us up perfectly to finish the game on a high. 30-22 was the final score, one which as a team we will never forget.
“Not only was this the final score of this particular match, but it was the perfect score to end our season.”
Donna Lyon, who coaches the team with Emma Mathers, said: “I am very proud of the girls and their achievements throughout the season.
“They are all extremely hard working girls and deserve the success they have achieved. All players are very talented girls, their team ethos is great.
“It has been a pleasure to work with the girls and see them improve and develop as players.”
