Members of Longside Tennis Club gathered together for their Awards Night last month at the village’s Golf Club.
Presenting the awards and certificates to winners and runners-up of the club 2014 tournaments was President Morag Urquhart.
Winners of the Junior tournaments were: in the Under 10 singles category, Isla Hynd won the tournament and her younger sister, Niamh Hynd was the runner up.
Rebecca Irvine won the Girls singles Over 10 while her twin sister, Emma Irvine, was runner up.
Isaac McLean won the Boys singles Over 10 and Aidan Dunn was runner up.
Mrs Urquhart also presented Calum Selman and Joe Selman with medals from the 2014 Buchan Tennis League Association tournaments in both the Doubles and Singles Boys’ tournaments.
In the Senior tournaments medals and certificates were presented to: John Low who won the Men’s Singles and James Noble, runner up, while the Ladies’ Singles winner was Morag Selman and runner up, Helen Bryce.
Men’s Doubles winners were John Low and Ravi Moodley with David Anderson and James Noble, runners up.
Helen Bryce and Morag Selman won the Ladies’ Doubles while Marian Shildrick and Julie Anderson were runners up.
Finally, the Mixed Doubles tournament was won by Morag Selman and James Noble and runners up were Helen Bryce and David Anderson.
Following the meal and presentation of awards, members formed teams and competed in many tennis-inspired games and quiz rounds.
The Longside 2015 tennis season will start on Sunday, April 5.
A ‘Come and Try’ afternoon will be held on Sunday, April 19, from 2-4 pm and everyone is invited along.
It is hoped to encourage those who haven’t played in a long time to get back onto the courts and will also give an opportunity for those who would just like to give it a ‘try’.
The Spring Junior Coaching programme will start on Friday, April 24.
Member andcoach, Brenda Sutherland along with other member volunteers, will be coaching one 30 minute session and two 45-minute sessions for junior players on Friday afternoons for an eight week programme at Longside Tennis Club.
Between 4.15 and 4.45pm there will be a beginners or red session while the orange group will meet from 4.45-5.30pm, and the green group is coached from 5.30-6.15pm.
These lessons are structured to develop coordination skills, technical and physical abilities of children enabling them to play and enjoy tennis.
Some fun activities will be available for the youngsters after the programme.
Application forms are available from schools in the area, the club house or secretary, Helen Bryce or treasurer, Alfie Thomson.
The eight-week block red session costs £18 for Club members and £25 for non-members while the orange and green groups cost £30 for non-Club members and £24 for members.
Having both a men’s and a ladies’ team in the Aberdeen and District league, the club is always looking out for potential members.
