Aberdeenshire Sports Awards deadline set for March 3

Aberdeenshire Sports Council Sports Awards Evening is being held at the Garioch Sports Centre on Inverurie on March 28.

More than 200 people will attend the popular annual awards evening.

Guest of honour will be Katherine Grainger CBE the 2012 Olympic rowing gold medalist.

Katherine is to receive a Special Achievement award from the sports council to recognise her sporting success.

Provost Jill Webster of Aberdeenshire Council will also attend and be involved in presenting an award for Disability Sport.

The evening is a way of rewarding and acknowledging local sports people in Aberdeenshire for their commitment to and/or achievement in sport during 2013 (or in the case of the Service to Sport category over many years). More than 50 nominations were received for last year’s awards.

All nominees are to receive a certificate to recognise their contribution to local sport.

The evening is a great opportunity for clubs and other organisations to recognise the sports talent in their midst, to give local sports people and volunteers the acknowledgement they deserve, and also to show the wealth of sporting talent which is

The winners of each of the following eight categories to be announced during the evening will receive a very attractive award.

* Sports Personality of the Year

* Young Male and Female

* Coach of the Year Award

* Team of the Year Award

* Club of the Year Award

* Service to Sport Award

* Outstanding Achievement

Two further categories will be presented for Disability Sport and the Active Schools Volunteer of the Year Award
