Young Peterhead archer Caitlyn Aiken took second place recently in the U12 category at the British Junior Indoor Archery Championships recently.
Caitlyn travelled down to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry to shoot in the one day event which was held on the December 6.
The youngser was up against some of England’s finest young female archers but held her composure to shoot an impressive 517 out of 600 score in a Portsmouth round which sees archers shoot 60 arrows on a 60cm target at a distance of 20 yards.
It has been a fantastic year for Caitlyn who had a great result at the British Junior Outdoor Archery Championships which were held in Telford in July.
Caitlyn, who was shooting for the U18 Scottish team, won silver medals on both days of the competition in the recurve bow U12 female individual category, with Scotland finishing a close second to England in the team event.
During the competition Caitlyn had to shoot 144 arrows each day at distances varying from 30 metres to 10 metres.
As a result of her high scores she broke no less than three Scottish records.
Commenting on Caitlyn’s achievements, dad John said: “We are very proud of Caitlyn’s achievements.
“Considering she is still ten years old she has shown great commitment and has worked very hard on her training often getting up early to attend the Scottish Academy coaching sessions usually near Edinburgh.
“She is very pleased with the fact that she has been ranked first in the Scottish female U18s and 2nd in Britain U12s for the 2014 outdoor season.”
John and Caitlyn extended their thanks to Alan Watson of Mintlaw who sponsored Caitlyn’s trip to Coventry.
Caitlyn joined the local archery club ‘Doric Bowmen’ at the age of six and was invited to join the Scottish Junior Archery Academy at eight years old.
The academy provides a great opportunity for young Scottish archers to train to a high standard hopefully going on to compete at international and Olympic level.
Being with the academy Caitlyn had to complete a training log, carry out certain exercises and attend various coaching sessions around Scotland.
