A Mintlaw teenager has represented Scotland at judo for the first time at the Sainsbury’s UK School Games winning bronze and silver.

Morgan McDonald, 16, competed at the games in Manchester, taking home two medals, a bronze in the singles and silver for the Scotland team.

Morgan said: “It was a really good experience and the atmosphere was really great.”

The ambitious teenager, who trains in Inverurie, has been practicing the martial art since he was 11 and trains four times a week.

Morgan said: “I really enjoy judo because of all the friends you make and the great experiences you get with it.”

Such experiences include training with the Cameroon judo team before the Commonwealth games and the Japanese team in England.

Morgan will also fly out to Belgium in October to compete in the Flanders Cup.

The Mintlaw teen is currently ranked 12th in Britain for his division and is determined to move up and force his way into the GB team.

Morgan said: “This year that’s something I’m really aiming for, just getting up the GB ranking and see where it can go from there.”
