B’hvn Hearts 3

Abdn Uni 2

Buchanhaven Hearts had Aberdeen University as visitors in what was a tough game at the weekend.

Early exchanges were pretty even wit Alex Davidson going on a good run taking him past three men, but he couldn’t get his shot away.

The same player was put through by Cameron but he shot into the side netting.

Uni hit back and Spence had a good effort go over the bar. Hearts forced a couple of free kicks in dangerous positions but Uni keeper Ryan saved well.

Uni took the lead when they broke down the right and Edwards whipped in a great cross which Workman first-timed the ball past McDonald to put the visitors ahead.

The lead didn’t last long, however, when Ryahn Cameron turned Laidlaw in the box and was brought down. Ritchie Ligertwood scored from the spot to make it 1-1.

But again Uni took the lead in a breakaway similar to the first when Workman crossed for McDonald to make room to shoot past McDonald in the Hearts goal. Hearts had it all to do in the second half and it got off to the best possible start when Cameron was barrled in the back by Pearson and the referee pointed to the spot.

Ritchie Ligertwood made a good job of the penalty to make it 2-2. Ballard then came on for Pack and he was immediately in the action and Ryan pulled off a good save to stop the striker scoring.

Hearts were turning the crew but had to be awrae of the Uni breakaways and were defending well.

Ryan pulled off another good save from Ballard as Davidson put him through. Uni broke and McDonald gathered a dangerous cross from Edwards. The Uni keeper pulled off an unbelievable save from a Dane Ballard shot as it was destined for the top corner.

Hearts subbed Tait for Davidson. Hearts forced a couple of corners, the first one being blocked and went for anotehr in which Jack Tait whipped in a great ball and Kris Keith arrived to head it past Ryan to put Hearts 3-2 up.

Uni then went down to ten men when Workman was sent off. Pearson then followed him to put Uni down to nine men with minutes remaining.

Hearts’ Ligertwood was also sent off for a second bookable offence in the final seconds. Their next game is away to Parkvale on Saturday with a 2pm kick-off.
