Thistle lose again in weekend of action in League

IN THE Buchan Welfare Football League, leaders Longside Thistle lost for the second game in a row after they were beaten by Ardallie by 5-4.

The winning goals came from Ross Forrester with a brace and one each from Grant Elrick. Ross Schalsche and Fraser Willox and replying for the home side was Scott McSeveney, Alan Stephen, Peter Grant and Dale McCouiag.

Grange United faced Harbour Lights knowing only a win would keep them in contention for the League Title and the home side went on to claim all three points and close the gap to two points at the top of the table.

Home side scorers were Marc Walker, AJ Buchan, Mark Cordiner and Michael Waddell and for the away side was Robbie McKean.

Buchanhaven Rangers faced local side Mambos and it was the away side that continued their recent good form by winning by 4-2.

The away side scorers were Calum Slessor, Andrew Hepburn, Alan Norris and Lewis Thompson and for the home side was a brace from Paul Taylor.

Methlick Faced Peterhead Pensioners in another league game and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Scoring for the home side was Marc Ligertwood and for the away side was Neil Cunningham.

In the Ardallie Cup quarter-finals Ardallie faced Buchanhaven Rangers for a place in the semis against Mambos.

In a high-scoring match Ardallie won by 6-3. The winning goals were scored by Peter Jackson netting a brace and one apiece from Scott Bartlett, Phillip Rennie, Ross Forrester and Grant Elrick.

Scoring for Rangers were Peter Mitchell, Paul McIntosh and Matthew Kendall.

Cuminestown entertained Longside Thistle for the second time within a week and it was the visitors who took a two-goal lead in the first half with goals from Allan Stephen and Scott Davidson.

However, Town made a great comeback in the second half to run out winners by 3-2. The home scorers were Steven Whitecross bagged a brace and the other from Steven Howitt.

The last quarter-final was a local clash between Peterhead Pensioners and Grange United and it ended in a comfortable win for the away side running out winners by 8-1 win and they now meet Cuminestown in the semi-final.

The winning goals came from Jack Taylor with a hatrick, a brace from Craig Good and one each from Mark Walker, James Watson and James Donaldson.
