Peterhead FC: Donaldson would love to stay

Raith Rovers defender Reece Donaldson, on loan at the Blue Toon until January, would be eager to keep playing at Balmoor if there was not space at his parent club.

The 19-year-old has already made five appearances since joining, scoring once and twice been named as ‘man of the match.’

After another stand-out performance against Albion Rovers on Saturday, Donaldson said: “I’m delighted, obviously.

“I’m enjoying it. Playing some games and I’m used to the boys too. That helps me to get along better.

“It depends really on what happens at Raith. If I was going to start at Raith that’s who i;m contracted to and I’d love to play. If not, I’m happy to stay here.”

He has impressed both the fans and his new manager.

Jim McInally said: “Reece is a good player and I think he is starting to think he’d like to stay.

“He said so to one of the other boys last week.

“I wouldn’t think twice about taking him back because he’s got good qualities about him.

“He’s quite aggressive, he’s quick, even today he likes to dribble.

“It’s good to have someone with pace to play alongside Ryan Strachan.”

Unless the situation changes, Reece is set to make is final appearance for Peterhead against East Stirlingshire on Saturday, January 11.

Donaldson’s arrival at Balmoor in mid-November was a welcome reprieve for a team then beset by injuries.

Centre backs Scott Ross, Callum MacDonald and Ryan Strachan were all out of action and Donaldson started immediately.

But with both Strachan and Ross returning, Donaldson has proved himself worthy of a continued starting berth.

Remarkably the Donaldson is one of The Rovers’ longest-serving players.

Donaldson joined the club when he was only 14 and signed a full-time contract in the summer of 2010.

His emergency loan period ends on January 14, 2014.
