Peterhead strike late but Ayr hit back to earn draw at Somerset Park

Peterhead came from 2-1 down to lead 3-2 in the final minutes of last Tuesday’s game but Ayr hit back to salvage a draw one minute after Jordan brown’s strike.

Nicky Devlin headed Ayr ahead in three minutes into the game as Peterhead struggled early on having only arrieved at Somerset Park half an hour before kick-off.

Former Kilmarnock man Gary McDonald pulled a goal back for the visitors less than ten mniutes later, getting on the end of a Jamie Redman cross to score from close range.

Ayr’s Robbie Crawford hit the bar with a header later on the half before Scotland Cap Craig Beattie netted to send the home side into the break with the lead.

Graeme Smith was kept busy in the second half as Ayr pushed to extend their lead but it was just after 70minutes when Stecen Noble netted to draw the match level.

Then as full time approached Nicky Reily fed a ball through to Jordan Brown who sloted a well placed shot past Ayr keeper Hutton to surely win the match for his side.

Jordan Preston had other ideas however, as the Ayr player pounced on a lapse in concentration to level the match again only one minute after Brown had looked to have won the match.

Peterhead will feel hard done by on several fronts, including the travel issues affecting warm-up times and the fact this fixture was rearanged from a game Jim McInally’s men had already won back in November only to find out they had fielded the ineligible Reece Donaldson.
