Peterhead beaten by Partick Thistle at Balmoor
Peterhead suffered a third successive home defeat as they went down 3-0 to Partick Thistle at Balmoor on Saturday.
After failing to score in losses to Stenhousemuir in the Scottish Cup and Clyde in the league, Jim McInally's side once again drew a blank and missed out on the chance to leapfrog their opponents in the League 1 table.
The home side started brightly and Jordan Brown saw an early effort deflected just wide.
But Thistle also threatened as the game progressed and Ross Docherty and Connor Murray were both denied by Blue Toon keeper Joshua Rae.
However the visitors from Glasgow made the breakthrough five minutes from half-time, Joe Cardle turning the ball home from Murray's set up.
Peterhead responded well and Scott Brown was only just wide with a long-range free-kick.
However Thistle killed the game off with two goals early in the second half.
Scorer Cardle turned provider with a cross for Scott Tiffoney to knock home the second seven minutes after the restart.
And the game was finished as a contest on the hour mark.
Rae did well to keep out a Brian Graham header, but from Cardle's resultant corner Graham made no mistake at the second time of asking.
Brown went close with another free-kick, but the visitors remained in control and Zak Rudden missed a decent chance to add a fourth in the closing stages.
The defeat leaves leaves Peterhead in seventh place, four points off the promotion play-offs but nine points clear of bottom side Forfar.
