BUCHANHAVEN Hearts had neighbours Longside as the visitors in a GA Engineering Cup first round match at Raemoss Park on Saturday.
Longside kicked off and went straight onto the attack and Stainton put in a teasing cross which was well dealt with by Bennett in the Hearts goal.
Hearts Ballard combined with Stuart and got in an effort which was well saved by Duffy.
Keith almost gave away possession on the edge of the box but did well to recover with a good tackle on Little who was quick to react.
Longside took the lead when Porter crossed from the left and Ryan Donaldson ghosted in at the back post to side foot past Bennett to put the vistors 0-1 ahead.
Hearts should have equalised when Ritchie found Dane Ballard who went through on goal and Duffy spread himself well to stop his goal-bound shot then saved the reboundto keep his side ahead.
Butcher then had a chance but he couldn’t get his shot away and the ball was cleared, as half time approached a Ritchie corner was headed over at the back post by Cunniningham.
Hearts started the second half well and Ritchie fired a free kick just over the bar then Hearts did equalise when pressure from Ballard saw his shot blocked and it fell to Jamie Clark whose effort was aleo paried by Duffy but the alert Scott McLeod volleyed home in style to make it 1-1.
Longside had a long-range effort by Norris just go over the bar. Hearts subbed Abolghassem who had put in a good shift with Allan Donaldson and Hearts continued to give Longside no room to play and were playing well and Doug Stuart nearly got onto a Ritchie pass but Ryan Donaldson cleared the danger.
Porter put in a good cross which just eluded Butcher at the back post then Ryan Donaldson fired a shot which just went over the bar.
Hearts broke away through Scott McLeod but his final pass couldn’t find Ballard who was surely through with just Duffy to beat.
Neither side took advantage late on and it ended a draw which meant it went straight to penalties with Hearts scoring all five and Longside scoring four with the unfortunate John Usher missing the first penalty for Longside.
This was an entertaining game with Longside shading the first half and Hearts on top in the second with Hearts progressing to the second round.

The next game for Hearts is away to Burghead Thistle in a first division league game with a 2pm kick-off.
