Maud take first three points of the season

MAUD celebrated their first three points of the North Superleague season with a 4-1 win over Lewis United.

In the first minute a break up field by Pirie who sent in a dangerous cross through Maud’s box but there were no takers.

Maud took the lead on 3 minutes when Alexander won the ball on the half way line and sent a through ball for Garden to run on to and he fired past the home keeper for the first goal. Maud’s first corner was taken by Alexander and it came back out to him and he curled a shot which was heading for the top corner of the net but home keeper McIntosh made a brilliant one handed save.

The away side was well on top and a long ball over the Lewis defence which Garden latched on to and his shot was again brilliantly saved by McIntosh.

Maud doubled their lead on 28 minutes when Garden picked the ball up on the half way line and he fed

Robertson played into Duguid’s feet at the edge of the box and he turned his marker and unleashed a shot which flew past the home keeper McIntosh into the roof of the net.

A third goal followed on 37 minutes when garden played in Alexander and he curled his shot into the corner of the net past the helpless McIntosh.

Cook came close when he broke on the right and his shot went narrowly past the post and to everyone’s amazement a corner was given which Barbour punched clear.

Lewis came out fired up after the break and Pirie came close to pulling a goal back but his shot was off target. Alexander was played down the right and he cut in and beat two players and his shot was parried out by MacIntosh but into the path of Robertson who had an easy task to score Maud’s forth goal. Maud then replaced the injured Duguid by Lynch on 55 minutes.

Cook beat the Maud offside trap but Hall got back with a great tackle but it deflected back to Murray whose shot was brilliantly saved by Barbour in the Maud goal. A minute later Lewis United did pull a goal back after Buchanan crossed to the back post where Pirie rose to head home.

A Robertson free kick was headed goalwards by Ritchie at the front post but Mackintosh saved comfortably. Findletter sent a dangerous cross to the back post where Buchanan headed past the post.

Maud then made their last change with Luke Barbour replacing Robertson and the substitute was cautioned for simulating a dive when it looked like he was brought down inside the box by the home keeper.

A vital first three league points on the board for Maud whose next match is at home to Hermes on Saturday in the PMAC Group Superleague (ko 2pm).
