Longside had Lewis United as visitors on Saturday in the PMAC Group Superleague.
But it was to be a disappointing display and result for Longside, when a win would have kept the momentum going and would have seen them continue their rise up the table.
Sadly the performance from too many of the players was way below what they are capable of.
Early on, a cross from Pirie caused panic in the home defence but Thomson was on hand to make the save. A high ball from Valentine was met by Pirie but his header was saved by Thomson.
Longside were awarded a free kick just outside the box, Campbell’s kick was blocked by the defensive wall before being cleared. An Alexander Davidson ball was met by Marchi but his header was cleared. A Callum Stewart shot was deflected for a corner which came to nothing.
A quick free kick was played to Cardno and his fierce shot was saved by Sammy Stewart, Alexander Davidson’s corner kick was cleared upfield. Buchananan sent over a teasing cross and it was cleared for a corner, Smith’s kick was well saved by Thomson under the bar. A Cardno shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Sammy Stewart. McKinnon had a back header from a Buchanan cross but his effort was well wide. Minutes later McKinnon again tested Thomson when he picked up the ball inside the box but the keeper was equal to the task.
Alexander Davidson did have the ball in the net for Longside but the referee’s assistant had his flag up for offside. A Smith free kick was headed clear as far as Fyvie and Thomson made a brilliant save to keep his shot out.
Alexander Davidson showed good control before sending Campbell clear but his shot went narrowly wide. A Campbell free kick was punched clear by Sammy Stewart before the visiting defence completed the clearance.
Campbell beat the keeper in a race for the ball before firing it goalwards but his shot was cleared off the line. The visitors took the lead in the 58th minute when Craig Buchanan showed good control before slipping the ball past Thomson.
Two minutes later they doubled their lead when Thomson couldn’t get a high cross clear and Michael Murray had the simple task of nodding the ball home. Lewis scored a third in 63 minutes when Michael McKinnon ran through almost unchallenged before firing the ball past Thomson.
The home side pulled a goal after they were awarded a penalty when Paul Campbell was felled in the box, the forward got up to make no mistake from the spot.
A free kick from Marchi went high over the bar. Alexander Davidson weaved his way into the box before drilling in a low cross which was cleared for a corner, from the kick Steven Davidson nodded the ball over the bar.
