Longside succumbed to a late goal against deveronvale on Saturday to see them go down 2-1 in the PMAC group Superleague.

The Davidson Park side deserved at least a point from this game but if you don’t convert your chances you won’t win games.

After getting back on even terms it was disappointing they couldn’t hold out for a vital point.

In the opening minutes of the encounter up at Banff a fine free kick by Buchan was missed by everyone and went out for a goalkick. Duncan showed great skill in the box before firing his shot wide.

McLeay got on the end of a free kick for the home side but he sent his header wide.

Smith then thought he had beaten the offside trap when he put the ball into the back of the net but the referee’s assistant had rightly flagged for offside.

Lobban was then sent clear as Deveronside piled on the pressure but he sent over a poor cross which went out for a goalkick. Duncan then raced clear for Longside but he fired his shot wide of the target.

A Burr corner caused panic in the home defence before it was eventually cleared out to Burr again but his shot went past the post.

Kevin Thomson was almost through on goal but the alert Thomson came out of his goal to save. A Buchan free kick found Duncan and his shot was saved by Tait at the second attempt. Flett tried an ambitious shot from 30 yards but his effort went well over the bar. Smith saw his header cleared by Innes.

The home side made the dream to the second half when they scored straight from the kick off, Watt got free on the right before slipping the ball into the path of Michael Smith and he neatly dispatched it beyond Thomson off the post and into the net.

Minutes later Lobban was sent clear but he dragged his shot wide. Wallace fired in a cross which Cameron met but he couldn’t get enough on it to find the target. Cameron then turned provider when he put a good ball into the middle but the ball was scrambled clear.

Smith got the ball on the edge of the box for Deveronside but he blasted it well wide. Longside made a change in 64 minutes when Tait replaced Ramsay. A Buchan free kick was cleared as far as Whyte and his cross was gathered by keeper Tait.

In the 75th minute a superb corner from Burr went across the six yard box but nobody in a Longside shirt was their to supply the finishing touch.

A minute later Butcher replaced Wallace for Longside. Duncan saw his shot well saved by Tait and Cameron got to the loose ball but could only find the side netting.

Longside scored the equaliser in the 83rd minute when Nicol Davidson rose to head home a Tait corner.

With a draw now the likely outcome the home side hit the winner in the 87th minute when Thomson failed to hold onto a high ball and Ewen Clark followed up to score.
