Longside travelled to play Cruden Bay on Saturday in the group stage of the Morrison Cup.
Longside opened the scoring in the 10th minute when West did well before slipping the ball to Sean Butcher and he took the ball round Fraser before sliding it into the net.
Two minutes later the visitors scored a second when the home defence failed to get the ball clear.
Paul McIntosh’s shot took a deflection and looped over a stranded Fraser.
At the other end West got up to head a Mackie cross wide of the post. Wallace then had a half chance for Longside but he fired his shot into the side netting.
Fraser produced a brilliant save at full stretch to foil West. Minutes later the Bay keeper had to look lively again to save a Bain header.
In the second period Butcher was sent clear but his angled shot went narrowly wide. A Mackie corner was just too high for Stainton at the far post.
A poor clearance from Fraser fell to West 25 yards out but his shot drifted wide. Just past the hour mark Summers replaced West for Longside.
Bruce was sent clear for the home side but he drove his shot straight at Flynn. Cunningham then rose to a Penney free kick but he sent his header wide.
The visitors made a double change with Cowe and Findlay replacing Wallace and Heatherwick.
In the closing minutes a Nicol Davidson shot was deflected for a corner which came to nothing and a Butcher shot was saved by Fraser.
Longside were never at their best and after taking the early lead they should have kicked on and made things a little more comfortable but they held on for the win.
This Saturday Longside are at home to Sunnybank and Cruden Bay are away to Colony Park both in the McBookie.com First Division East(ko:1.30pm).
