Longside travelled to play Ellon United on Saturday in the PMAC Group Superleague.
In the second minute Norris knocked the ball down to Duncan but he fired his shot well wide from 25 yards.
Mathers fired in a corner for Ellon but Craik made a superb tackle as Dunbar looked set to score. Minutes later a Leahy strike was cleared off the line by the Longside defence.
A mistake by Black allowed Stewart a clean run on goal but his shot was brilliantly saved by Duffy before Morrice sent the rebound over the bar. Midway through the first half a Duncan shot from 25 yards went narrowly wide with Steel beaten.
With 30 minutes gone Beddie cut inside for the visitors but his shot went past the post. Stewart had a weak effort from the edge of the box easily saved by Duffy. Cardno had a great chance to set up someone in the middle for Longside but he played the ball straight at Ellon keeper Steel.
Porter did well to win the ball for Longside but his final shot lacked power and was straight at Steel. Bremner had a header for Ellon but his effort went well wide.
Just before half time Lawson saw his powerful header strike the post before being cleared.
Minutes into the second half a Porter corner was met by Duncan but he headed the ball over the bar. A Mathers corner was cleared as far as Whelan but his shot was straight at Duffy.
A fine cross from Black was just too far in front of Duncan and the ball went out for a goalkick. With 62 minutes gone a Donaldson shot was deflected for a corner, Porter’s kick was cleared upfield.
The home side took the lead two minutes later when the Longside defence failed to clear a ball into the box, Mark Lawson was allowed time to take the ball down before drilling it low into the net.
Longside made a double substitution in 74 minutes when Walker and Bruce replaced Porter and Usher.
Three minutes later the scores were level when a 25-yard free kick from Ross Walker was deflected past Steel. There was to be no more scoring although both teams had a few corners in the closing minutes without turning them into a goal.
A draw probably a fair result with neither side able to take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate. Chances were few and far between and Longside did well to gain a point as the first goal was always going to be crucial.
Longside are at home this Saturday against Culter in the Superleague (kick-off 2pm)..
