Longside came away from Stonehaven dreadfully unlucky not have taken at least a point.

This was a vastly-improved performance from Longside but once again luck wasn’t on their side.

On another day they might have won all three points but they deserved a point at least.

The visitors took the lead in the seventh minute in this PMAC Group Superleague when a long clearance from MacDonald was picked up by Whyte and he in turn found Sean Butcher and he nodded the ball over the Stonehaven keeper. Buchan cleared a dangerous for Stonehaven as far as Taylor but his 25 yard shot went high over the bar. Lewis Shand was next up for the home side to have a shot at goal but his strike was well saved by MacDonald. A fine free kick from Tait was headed clear by McCall.

Taylor beat the offside trap for the home side before finding Lewis Shand in the middle but he dragged his shot wide. A long throw from Pyper caused confusion in the Longside defence and Lewis Shand headed the ball past MacDonald.

Just before half-time Butcher sent Burr clear on the right but he fired his shot wide from a difficult angle. Longside finished the half strongly and Nicol Davidson just failed to convert a Tait free kick

Longside made a change at the start of the second half when Daniel replaced Carr. The home side took the lead in 48th minute when Weir failed to get the ball clear it was fired into the danger area and Shand dived to head home his second of the match.

Ramsay did well to win the ball in midfield before surging forward but his final shot went wide. A Tait corner fell to Ramsay but he couldn’t get a shot at goal and the chance was lost. Armstrong had a great chance for Stonehaven but his shot produced a brilliant point blank save from MacDonald.

Longside appealed for a penalty when Ramsay clashed in the box with Mathieson but the referee waived play on. In the 86th minute the game quickly moved to the other end and Darren Taylor did well before chipping the ball over the keeper and into the net. A minute later Longside produced the move of the match to pull a goal back, Buchan found Butcher and played it into the path of Hamish Burr who kept his composure before slipping the ball past the keeper.

This Saturday Longside are at home to New Elgin in the PMAC Group Superleague (ko 2pm).
