BUCHAN Quines produced a brilliant display to dominate a Hibs side who fully expected to beat their younger opponents.
Two up within the first four minutes thanks to two well-taken goals from Hannah Stewart, the Quines played some fantastic attacking football that Hibs just couldn’t live with.
The game might have been different had Hibs scored after just 20 seconds when a shot rattled back off the post. But after that let-off the Quines passed the ball around confidently, breaking at real pace and causing mayhem in the home defence.
Hannah Stewart opened the scoring after only two minutes when she ran through on goal and slipped the ball past the keeper and into the net. Two minutes later and it was 2-0. Hannah beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper before sliding a shot into the net from a tight angle
Hannah almost completed a first half hat-trick and only a fine interception from the Hibs keeper prevented a goal.
The nearest Hibs came to scoring in the first half apart from the early shot was when their number 15 flashed a header just over the bar.
Just before half time Buchan made it 3-0 when a long throw from Hannah left Sophie Anderson with time to pick her spot.
The second half saw Hibs try desperately to get back into the game but the well organised Buchan defence were able to deal with the Hibs attacks and Chloe Garvock was composed in goal.
Buchan’s pace meant that they could break up attacks and get the ball moving forward quickly.
A few chances came and went and the home keeper made a couple of good stops to keep her team in the game.
But right at the end Hannah Stewart completed another hat-trick when she tucked away a rebound from Louise Brown’s shot.
The reaction of the Hibs girls at full time showed how disappointed they were to lose this one. But to be fair the Quines were fantastic and fully deserve their place in the quarter-finals.
