IN THE Deejays Nightclub League, Mormond Thistle faced the high-flying St. Combs and the home side keeper Fyffe was twice called into action saving from Smith then Stephen Buchan.
Scott Forbes hit a fierce shot which went just over the St. Combs bar then Sutherland hit a drive just past the post. St. Combs took the lead against the run of play when Smith was played in on the left and he lobbed the out rushing Fyffe. A few minutes later Lawson levelled the score with a brilliant curling shot which found the top corner of the net.
The away side keeper was twice their saviour saving from Smith shot then a Sutherland shot. A Lawson corner was cleared on the line by Gordon. In the second half Smith tried to lobb Fyffe but the big keeper saved.
Sutherland made a good run going past three defenders but Gordon saved. St. Combs took the lead when Smith went past his marker a fired in at the front post. The away side made sure of all three points when substitute Danny Buchan came off the bench to score St. Combs third goal.
New Deer faced Clinton Thistle in their league game and the visitors took a two-goal lead with goals from Matthew Cowe and a 30-yard strike from Martin Cowe.
They then had a penalty taken by Matthew Cowe saved by the home keeper Sanders. New Deer got one goal back from Kevin Pirie but for the second time Martin Cowe fired in another 30 yards strike to regain their two-goal lead. New Deer did score in the last minute with a penalty from Kyle Tait.
Faithlie United entertained Rosehearty Thistle in a league game and it was the home side that picked up another three points scoring four goals without reply. The scorers were Craig Whylie, Chrissiy Grieve, Jo Jo Reid and Martyn Summers.
Cheers faced Invercairn United and it was the away side that hit the goal trail winning by 7-2. Star man was Jamie Martin hitting four goals, Gilbert Paterson Jnr scored a brace and one came from Jamie Forman. Replying for the home side was Martin Atkinson with a brace.
In another league game Rosehearty Thistle played host to Elizabethan Link Up and this match was predicted to be a close one.
The home side went on to collect all three points with a 3-1 win. Daniel Kewley fired a double and the other was from Martyn Robertson and for Link Up was Kevin Mair. The away side finished the match with ten players after Aarron McDonald was sent off for receiving two cautions.
The Terry Sutton Memorial Cup semi-final was between New Pitsligo and Mormond Thistle and the home side was on the front foot at the start with Mormond keeper Fyffe having to save shots from Neil Christie and Luke Reekie.
At the other end Lawson played in Sutherland who whipped in a dangerous cross but there were no takers in the box.
N. Christie on the left crossed for Stephen and he shot against the bar from six yards. The home side took the lead when a ball over the top found Ryan Christie who looked well offside but he finished well.
Christie had a goal chalked off for offside but minutes later he out jumped the away defence to head in at the back post. Sutherland did have a chance to pull a goal back but he shot straight at the keeper.
In the second half Mormond began to fade and the home side went on to score four more goals through Christie who got his hatrick, G. McCluskey with a penalty and Jamie Wilson.
In the Victoria Cup first round, Bellslea entertained Panasonic Tavern and the home side continue their fine form going through to the next round with a 4-2 win. The home scorers were Daryl Allan, Fraser Watt, Jamie Buchan and Craig Milne and replying for the away side was Dane Ballard with a brace.
In another first round tie, new Deer faced Clinton Thistle for the second time in the space of four days. The away side took the lead half way through the first half but New deer replied with a Jimmy Ritchie goal to level.
In the second half it was very tight and as the game looked as though it was heading into extra time but the winning goal came with just two minutes remaining putting Clinton through to the next round.
St. Drostans faced an improving Faithlie United in their first round tie and it was the away team that went through to the next round with a fine 3-1 win. The winning goals came from John McKinnon with a brace and the other was from Dale Allan. The home side scorer was manager Iain Summers Snr.
