Hearts punished as they fail to take chances

BUCHANHAVEN Hearts took on Bridge of Don Thistle in a Division 1 game at the Raemoss Park on Saturday and were first to threaten when Glendinning broke into the Thistle box and opted to shoot when a pass across goals would have given Mark Stainton a simple tap-in at the back post.

Hearts did take the lead not long after when good play by Duncan and Ritchie saw Ritchie’s cross volleyed home by Dane Ballard giving Duguid no chance.

However Bridge of Don equalised with their first chance when a cross was cleared by Keith but Booth got a second chance to cross again and Lamberty struck home from six yards making it 1-1.

Forbes then pulled off a great save from a Robertson volley, but Hearts second goal wasn’t long in coming when a lovely through ball by Hart saw Ryan Duncan beat Duguid with a great finish to make it 2-1.

Hearts’ Clark then had a free header from a Ritchie corner & headed wide, Hearts kept up the pressure towards half time but couldn’t add to their lead.

Hearts continued on the attack from the off and should have scored when Stainton played in Glendinning who shot well but was blocked by Duguid. His second cross was headed just over by Ballard.

Mark Stainton wasn’t far away with a good 20-yard shot which just went wide. Hearts got their third goal when a long ball from Sime eluded McLean and Glendinning followed up to tap into the empty net.

Hearts then switched off when Booth was allowed to cross and McCum glanced a header past Forbes to make it 3-2. Hearts had another chance to increase their lead when good play by Stainton saw Duiguid pull off a good stop from Ballard.

Bridge of Don then forced a corner after a good stop from Forbes and from the resulting corner Leany headed past Forbes without being picked up to make it 3-3.

Hearts Stainton then headed against the post and the ball wasn’t followed up and was cleared, then a Ballard shot was blocked and the rebound fell to Ryan Duncan advancing at goal but he shot just over.

Thistle held out for a point that they scarcely deserved.

This was a game Hearts should have won easily with the amount of chances they created but they switched off on the odd occasions and were punished each time.

The next game is at home to Fraserburgh Utd in Division 1, kick-off at 1.30pm.
