BUCHANHAVEN Hearts had Superleague side Banks O’Dee as visitors to Raemoss Park at the weekend in a Regional Cup encounter.
Banks O’Dee took the game to Hearts straight from the kick-off when Gray rose to a cross from Laydon and headed wide. The visitors enjoyed a lot of the ball but the Hearts defence stood firm and kept Dee to long range efforts.
In a breakaway move Norris was unlucky with a shot from 25 yards which just flew wide. Banks O’Dee took the lead when Sime, under pressure, passed back to Bruce whose kick went straight to Scaffe whose cross was turned in by Fyffe to put Dee 1-0 ahead.
Laydon was causing problems with his mazy runs and Lynch was not far away at the back post. Barbour then turned long but his shot was blocked and the ball was cleared.
The second half started with Dee looking for a killer goal and Bruce pulled off a great save from a Lynch effort.
Hearts subbed Sandison with Ryan Duncan and the sub forced his way into the box but could not get his shot on target. Both teams were looking for the vital goal but both defences were playing well.
Dee should have wrapped it up when Laydon missed from yards out after good work from Fyffe. McLeod came on for Abolghassem.
Hearts were finding it hard to break down the well-organised Dee defence and their best chance fell to Barbour who beat Turnball but Dickinson saved his shot. There were no further goals and Dee progressed to the next round.
Dee probably just shaded the game but Hearts can take a lot from the game against fancied opponents. The next game is away to Lossiemouth United in the League with a 2.30pm kick-off.
