While not one of their finest performances, Maud grabbed a 4-2 away win in the Grill League Cup against Hall Russell.
It was heartening for the club to see Shaun Robertson completing 90 minutes and also manager Alan Hale getting some match time.
Fraser Hall and Donald Fraser worked well on the left especially in the second half.
The home side had the first chance when a 20 yard strike from Stuart Carroll went narrowly over the bar. Fraser hit a snap shot which Simpson got down low to his left to save. A quick break by the home side saw Clunas cross to the back post where Stuart Carroll header was saved by Barbour.
Maud took the lead after 35 minutes when Fraser Hall swung a freekick in and John Robertson headed home. A minute later it was 2-0 after Hodge played in Donald Fraser and he cooly slotted home. Five minutes before the break Maud made it three when Fraser layed the ball into the path of James Duguid who scored.
The home side pulled a goal back minutes later from a corner by Carroll, Barry Milne headed on at the front post and Hay came in to slide the ball home.
Two mins into the second half and Hodge went down the left and was blatantly pulled down resulting in Scott Anderson being sent off for hall Russell. The resulting freekick was Fraser and Duguid’s shot at the front post went close.
Ritchie fed Fraser on the left and he went past two defenders and cut back for Sean Bremner to score from 8 yards but Robertson made a brilliant block.
In the 76th minute a Hale cross was deflected to the back post where Greg Alexander’s header beat the keeper but was cleared of the line but James Duguid was on hand to bundle the ball over the line to make it 4-1 for the visitors.
In the 94 minute Hall Russell were awarded a penalty when the referee adjudged J. Robertson to have fouled and he then sent the defender off. Barry Milne stepped up and lashed the pen into the top corner of the net.
Maud’s next fixtures are both in the Grill Cup, - tonight (Tuesday ko 7pm) at home against Whitehills and on Saturday (ko 2pm) away to Stonehaven.
