Longside brought the curtain down on their season with a visit from their local rivals Maud at the weekend.

Barbour was up first to have a shot on goal for the visitors. However, his strike was brilliantly saved by Leiper at the expense of a corner.

Conway’s subsequent corner kick was headed wide by Simpson.

Maud took the lead in the 11th minute when Longside failed to clear a Conway corner. Robertson got the ball back in and James Chalmers was left on his own to head home for the opener.

Right from the restart Butcher tried a shot from 35 yards but his effort went well wide.

Leiper was in action yet again and made another superb save to tip a Duguid shot over the bar. Burr ran onto a Butcher knock-down to chip the ball over the keeper but the ball went over the bar.

A Conway corner was headed wide by Kirk. Butcher then ran clear with Burr but Robertson got back to clear the danger. A Robertson shot from 20 yards was well saved again by the impressive Leiper.

The keeper found himself in the thick of the action yet again this time to deny Duguid.

Action quickly got underway in the second half.

Ferris had a good chance to level matters minutes into the second period but Barbour saved at full stretch.

At the other end Simpson headed wide from eight yards. Butcher found himself in a great position to score for Longside but he could only fire it straight at Barbour.

Maud doubled their lead on 64 minutes when the Longside defence failed to get the ball clear and Richard Kirk made no mistake to fire it home.

Whyte did well to save his team from going further behind when he got the ball to safety.

Sean Bremner had a good chance when he got on the end of a Robertson cross but he headed the ball straight at the keeper.

The home side eventually managed pulled a goal back in the 70th minute when Jack Tait scored with a screamer from 25 yards. A fierce shot from Conway was well saved by Leiper.

A Butcher shot was deflected for a corner, Tait’s kick was headed clear. As derbies go this had to be one of the tamest the fans have witnessed.

Maud were the better side in the first half and only some superb saves by Rhys Leiper kept Longside in the game.

However, the home side probably shaded the second half and were unlucky not to get a share of the spoils.

This Saturday Maud are at home to Banchory St.Ternan in the quarter final of the McLeman Cup. Kick-off for the game is at 2pm.
