Longside had Deveronside as visitors on Saturday in the first round of the McLeman Cup.

Marchi and Zander Davidson sent over testing crosses in the early exchanges but their was no-one there for Longside to take advantage. Deveronside replied when Lobban got on the end of a high ball from Gray but his header was well off target.

The home side took the lead in the 12th minute when Norris played the ball through to Paul Campbell and he took a return pass from Walker before sliding it home. Two minutes later the lead was doubled when Paul Campbell ran onto a through ball before rounding the keeper and scoring with in off the post.

A Scott Davidson free kick for the visitors caused panic in the Longside defence before Beddie and Norris combined to clear the danger. Walker then had a chance when his rising shot had Thomson beaten but went narrowly over the bar. Clark ran clear but Thomson came out of his goal to make a fine save at the expense of a corner, Walker’s kick was headed clear by Beddie.

Walker and Marchi combined to the left before sending the ball into the damger area but the Murdo managed to get the ball clear. Thomson made a fine save from a Walker free kick.

Marchi put Campbell clear and he rounded McIntosh but couldn’t get the ball on target. Just before half time Zander Davidson sent over a superb cross and it was met by Marchi and his shot was blocked by McIntosh, Marchi couldn’t get enough on the rebound and the chance was gone.

Right from the restart Gray sent over a testing cross but Thomson was on hand to foil the danger. McLeay then fired the ball over the top from just inside the box.

The home side had a great chance when Marchi had a shot and then Campbell did well before finding Whyte arriving in the box but he fired the ball high over the bar.

Kerr looked set to score for the visitors but a great challenge by Walker averted the danger. Marchi got the ball wide on the right but his cross was too high for Campbell and the chance was lost.

In the 70th minute Thomson found Zander Davidson with a great pass and he in turn played it into the path of Nico Marchi and he fired it into the net. Little replaced Norris for Longside. Two minutes later Zander Davidson picked up the ball on the left before cutting inside and crashing an unstoppable shot past McIntosh.

With 75 minutes gone a mix-up between Murdo and Mcintosh allowed Paul Campbell to notch his hat-trick when he was left with the easy task of finding the empty net. Longside then made a double change when Porter and Duncan replaced Marchi and Campbell.

Smith must have thought he had scored for Deveronside but again Thomson was there to make the save. Porter saw his cross come shot come back off the bar before being cleared upfield.

This was a great display from Longside who have now scored nine goals in the last two games but the difference this week was they didn’t concede any. Longside are at home again on Saturday to Ellon United in the PMAC Group Superleague with a 2pm kick-off.
