Exciting weekend of Buchan League and Cup action

IN the North East Timber Supplies Buchan League Soccerworld Cup Group A, Ardallie had home advantage over Methlick and it was expected to be a close affair.

The game ended with a solitary goal from Methlick hit man Kevin Taylor that decided the match and give the away side off to a good start.

Hatton had Balmoor as visitors in their group A match and this was another close match with the home side winning by the odd goal in three.

The winning goals came from Ally Thomson who scored both goals and replying for the away side was marc Walker with a penalty.

Phd Pensioners faced Ardallie in a group match and the home side took a two-goal lead with goals from Ross Aird and Michael Ure but the away side made a great comeback with goals from Peter Jackson, Grant Elrick and Ross Forrester to gain all three points.

In another group A game Balmoor faced an improving Methlick side and in an entertaining match the home side ran out winners by four goals to two.

The winning goals came from AJ Buchan, Craig Good, Mark Cordiner and Brent Holtby Wall and replying for the visitors was Sam Mountain and Marc Ligertwood.

Longside Thistle had home advantage over Panasonic in their group B match.

This was a hard-fought game which ended in a draw with both teams scoring one goal each.

Scoring for the home side was Wayne Buchan and replying for the away side was Doug Stuart.

In Group B Cuminestown entertained Panasonic and the home side had the first chance when Singer played in Massie but he shot wide of the goals with just the keeper to beat.

On 25 minutes the home side did go in front with a penalty which Singer sent the keeper the wrong way to score.

Massie again had another chance to double the home side lead but shot wide of the post.

The away side hit back and drew level when a Duthie free kick found its way to Jay Watson to score from six yards.

The scorer then turned provider when he rounded the home keeper and cut back for Usher to side foot into the net.

Panasonic stretched their lead when a Doug Stuart penalty was blasted in to the roof of the net to go 3-1 ahead.

Early in the second half Williamson crossed for Singer to head home to reduce the lead to one.

Back came Pana and a shot by Usher was saved out for a corner which was curled in and David Gourley shot home then Paul Donaldson rose to head home from another corner to make it 5-2.

Park came close when his volley from 25 yards was tipped over the bar by the home keeper Robson.

The last goal came from a Duthie corner which Mark Duncan headed home to complete the scoring.

Group B - Longside Thistle 1, Panasonic 1; Cuminestown 2, Panasonic 6.
