Peterhead look set to make Stranraer’s Scott Rumsby their first signing of the close season as Jim McInally aims to strengthen his squad.
The 22-year full-back, who is also comfortable playing as a central defender, will give McInally more options in defence, an area the Blue Toon boss has been vocal about the need to bolster ahead of the new season.
Peterhead were briefly left without a recognised centre-back after Petrofac Cup final following injuries to Ryan Strachan, Scott Ross and Ally Gilchrist.
Rumsby began his youth career with Hamilton Accies before moving to Dundee United and then Rangers where he spent five years.
He moved to Pittodrie in 2010 before joining Stranraer on loan in August 2013 before making a permanent move to Stair Park.
Rumsby went on to make over 100 appearances for the Blues during his three seasons with the club.
He is expected to sign for Peterhead Football club within the next few days.
In other news, the SPFL last week confirmed the release date for next season’s fixtures.
The governing body made the announcement that fixtures for the 2016/17 Ladbrokes Premiership, Championship, League 1 and League 2 seasons will be released on Friday, June 17.
The Betfred League Cup will begin on Saturday, July 16, while the league season will kick-off three week later on Saturday, August 6.
