BUCHANHAVEN Hearts met Portgordon Victoria in a Division 1 encounter on a bright and breezy day at Raemoss Park.

The away team, with the wind behind them, started well with Leslie coming close with a shot which was well wide of Bennett’s goal, both teams were cancelling each other out with good defending at both ends.

It took Herats a while to get an effort on goal and Gordon was almost through but a good tackle but Ross saved the day for Portgordon Victoria and it was the away team again who created an opening but their shot was well wide from Greig.

Hearts almost took the lead when a cross from the right saw McPherson hit his own player and the ball was deflected over the bar.

A cross from Fraser saw Ballard hit a shot which was ne-tbound but Mathieson blocked his shot on the line.

Portgordon were finding spaces but there shooting was poor & Hearts survived a few anxious moments as the half time whistle approached

Hearts didn’t start the second half well and it was no surprise when the visitors took the lead when a ball from the right wasn’t defended well and Greig nipped in to shoot past Bennet to put them one goal ahead.

Back came Hearts and they made it 1-1 when a glorious cross from Brown saw Dane Ballard bullet a header which was well saved by Bain but the striker followed it up to rifle the ball into the net.

Again Portgordon came back into it and Bennett saved well from Leslie.

The away team took the lead with Hearts appealing for offside. Leslie strode through to shoot past Bennett to make 1-2.

Hearts won a free kick on the edge of the box and Ballard shot towards goal and goalkeeper Bain fumbled the ball.

Hearts’ substitute Jake Leslie followed up to level the game again at 2-2.

Hearts should have collected the three points when late on James Watson was sent through and shot past Bain but the referee blew for offside which was a marginal decision.

A draw was a fair result with Portgordon Victoria proving stiff opponents as Hearts expected, but Hearts have to be content with a draw and showed good fighting spirit to come back twice from a goal down.

Next game is away to Parkvale in a Division 1 league encounter on Saturday with a kick-off time of 2pm.
