Longside travelled to play FC Stoneywood on Saturday in the PMAC Group Superleague.

A Cromar free kick in the opening minute was headed clear by Donaldson. At the other end a 25-yard shot from Little was deflected for a corner, Tait send over a wicked corner but the danger was cleared.

The visitors forced two corners in quick succession but the Stoneywood defence stood firm. Taylor beat the offside trap before finding Stainer but he fired the ball over the top.

The home side opened the scoring with 19 minutes gone when they were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, Longside keeper MacDonald failed to hold Paul Campbell’s kick and it sneaked over the line.

Stoneywood added a second when they were awarded a free kick but David Stevenson looked yards offside when he was sent clear but he blasted the ball past MacDonald.

Longside pulled a goal back in 43 minutes when a good move was finished off when Whyte found Ben Danton in the box and he found the net from ten yards.

The visitors were reduced to ten men in 58 minutes when MacDonald came racing out of his goal and the ball took a nasty kick and the keeper handled it, the referee saw the incident warranted a red card and sent him from the field.

Cromar’s free kick struck the wall before he sent the rebound straight at Danton who had taken over in the Longside goal.

Nicol Davidson did well on the right before sending over a superb cross for Burr arriving at the far post but he couldn’t get a clean shot at goal and the ball was cleared upfield.

A 25-yard shot from Cromar was brilliantly saved by Danton. Cromar put David Stevenson clear with a fine pass and he netted his second and Stoneywood’s third.

Stuart Skinner completed the scoring when the Longside defence failed to get the ball clear and was on hand to shoot into the net.

Danton then had a couple of good saves to make sure there was no more scoring.

This was a disappointing result for Longside, the sending off was obviously the turning point in the game as up until then Longside were really unlucky to have been behind. Even when down to ten men they never threw in the towel and kept going until the end.

Longside are at home on Saturday to Stonehaven in the PMAC Group Superleague with a 2pm kick-off.
