Cup action for Welfare sides

The Soccerworld Cup quarter-final encounter between Elizabethan Link Up and Clinton Thistle ended in a comfortable win for the visitors after scoring six goals without reply to continue their fine run of form.

The win puts them into another semi-final where they face the winners of Bellslea and New Pitsligo. The scorers were Matthew Cowe who netted a hatrick and one apiece from Malcolm Slater, Darren Batty and Keith McIntyre.

In the Victoria Coaches Cup semi-final, it was expected to be a close affair between Faithlie United and New Pitsligo.

The away side took the lead on threeminutes when they were awarded a penalty and it was converted by Gilbert Stephen.

Faithlie United stormed back with two goals from Christopher Grieve and Dale Allan to take a 2-1 lead.

New Pitsligo’s Darren Lawson drew the visitors level with a sublime lob over home keeper Kevin Coyle.

The home side hit back and nudged back in front with a goal from Daniel Reid to let Faithlie go in at half time in the lead.

On 50 minutes Luke Reekie scored to make the score level once more.

There were chances for both sides to net the winner but neither side could convert any of their chances so it went into extra time.

There were no goals in the first half of extra time and just when it looked like it was going into penalties

Daniel Kewley scored the winner for New Pitsligo who now face Clinton Thistle in the final. This was an great advert for Welfare football with both sides going all out for a win.
