The Bay started the 2013-14 season with a trip to Banchory in the Grill League Cup.

Banchory had a few attacks early on but didn’t create any real chances.

Home keeper Buchan did well to save at the feet of Norris from a corner.

In doing so however he sustained an arm injury and was replaced by substitute keeper Bain.

The home side went ahead after eleven minutes, when Close found himself unmarked twenty five yards out and was able to run on and slot the ball past Gatt in the Bay goals.

The Bay equalized after twenty four minutes, when Beedie put in a fine cross from the left for Mair to nip in and put a header just inside the far post.

After the break the home side went ahead again after fifty five minutes.

Gatt failed to collect a cross from the right and the ball fell kindly for S. Smith who tapped the ball into the open net.

The Bay then had a scare when they failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to Henderson, who put his shot well over the bar from ten yards.

Although defeated, this was a creditable performance from Cruden Bay and they maybe deserved a draw.
