Cruden Bay end up a well beaten side at Fochabers

CRUDEN Bay succumbed to a fairly hefty 5-2 defeat away to Fochabers in this PMAC Division Two match.

The match was played on a heavy pitch as a result of the recent weather, but the Bay had a great start and were one up in the first minute.

Cameron was up-ended in the box and Walker made no mistake from the spot.

However, that was shortlived as the home side were level within two minutes.

Fairweather was tripped in the Bay area by Sime – and Woods also made no mistake with his spot kick, hammering the ball past Evans.

Evans had to move smartly off his line to tip a Harrison shot away for a corner; the Fochabers’ striker was causing plenty of problems for the Bay at this stage with his telling runs at the their defence.

In one run down the left, Sime had to get quickly across to dispossess him.

Further disaster befell The Bay after eleven minutes; a mistake between Evans and Sime which resulted in neither clearing the ball allowed Harrison to nip in, win the ball and put it into the net.

At this stage, the home side were well worth their lead. In a Bay attack, Stainton tried to release Whyte, but the ball was too long and ran through to keeper Flynn.

The Bay went a further goal behind after 22 minutes: Stuart put in a cross from the right which was sliced into the by Wisely as he tried to clear the ball.

Fochabers were now moving the ball about much quicker than the Bay and were causing them all sorts of problems.

In another Fochabers attack, Fairweather put the ball over the ball over the bar after Evans had punched out a Mitchell corner from the right.

The home side then went further ahead after 33 minutes.

Henderson won the ball in the box, after the Bay defence had failed to clear their lines once again, and put the ball into the net.

In a Bay attack, Buchan tried to put a through ball into the home defence but their was no Bay player able to take advantage, and in another, Walker won a corner after being tackled in the box which was headed well over by Mair.

The home side continued to press, however, another Mitchell corner was put over the bar by Henderson, and then Woods tried to put the same player from a free kick to the pass was too strong and the ball through to Evans.

Whyte latched onto a poor clearance from home keeper Flynn, 20 yards out, but was unable to capitalise on this error.

The Bay did pull a goal back just before half time, when Ramsay won the ball in midfield and ran on into the box and slotted the ball past Flynn. An early Sime free kick from out wide went straight through to Flynn.

Evans then did well to save a point blank range from Fairweather, the rebound going to Henderson, whose shot was also well saved by the Bay keeper.

The Bay did try and reduce the arrears – a Mair free kick was easily cleared and then Whyte tried a shot which Flynn saved easily, when a through ball to Walker might have been a better option.

The Bay were lucky not to go further behind, when their defence again failed to clear and allowed Henderson to put in a cross, from which McIntosh hit Evans’ right hand post and the ball ran to safety.

Buchan then put in good cross from the left, but Whyte was unable to take advantage as keeper Flynn had to make two attempts to collect the ball. In another Bay attack, Ramsay was too high with his effort from the edge of the box, and then a cut back from Walker following a Whyte through ball was easily cleared by the Fochabers’ defence.

At this stage, midway through the half The Bay were “huffing and puffing” but creating much impression on the home defence.

In fact it was the Fochabers who looked more likely to score; a long range effort from Fairweather was easily saved by Evans and then, after 75 minutes, the home side did increase their lead when Harrison latched onto through ball and curled the ball round Evans into the net.

The Bay did manage an attack or two; in one a Reid chip shot was turned away for a corner by Flynn and a Glendinning effort was deflected in the hands of the home keeper.

Fochabers continued to attack and McIntosh put in cross which went just wide.

Walker fired in a shot late on which Flynn did well to save and then the Bay striker wasted a chance when he shot wide following a Reid pass. All in all, this was another poor performance by the Bay and for the second week they ended up a well beaten team.

They are at home on Saturday when they entertain Whitehills in another PMAC League Division two match.
