Longside had Banchory St.Ternan as visitors on Saturday in the PMAC Group Superleague which was important for both sides.

In the opening minute Marchi found Zander Davidson with a superb pass but his cross was cleared.

A minute later the home side went ahead when Duncan was sent clear and he chipped the ball through to Paul Campbell and he placed it beyond the keeper and into the net.

Whyte and Marchi won corners in quick succession but both kicks from Zander Davidson were cleared. Biskup ran onto a long clearance from Banchory keeper Buchan but he headed the ball over the bar.

Whyte did well to win another corner for Longside, Zander Davidson’s kick was headed goalward by Steven Davidson for Marchi but his shot was brilliantly saved by Buchan before being cleared.

A mistake by Donaldson allowed Close to take the ball round Thomson but Donaldson recovered to clear the ball for a corner, Presley’s kick was headed clear by Steven Davidson and Campbell picked it up and raced into the Banchory penalty box before going down in a clash with Reid but the referee waived play on.

The home side doubled their lead in the 17th minute when a neat back flick from Marchi was picked up by Norris and his shot was guided into the net by Ross Walker.

Minutes later another fine move involving Zander Davidson, Campbell and Walker was scrambled clear for a corner which came to nothing.

A long throw from Banchory was hooked in by McGregor for Biskup and his shot was blocked before the Longside defence managed to get the ball clear. Close had a strike from the edge of the box but his effort went wide. At the other end Walker played th

e ball inside to Marchi and his shot on the turn was blocked before being cleared.

Thomson made a brilliant save to turn a McGregor shot round the post. Presly’s kick was headed clear by Beddie.

Minutes later a Beddie clearance fell to Adam but his chip shot went over the bar but Thomson had it covered. Just before half time Walker had a great chance to add a third for Longside but Buchan got down quickly to make a fine save.

The home side made the perfect start to the second half when they increased their lead in 48 minutes, A Zander Davidson corner was met by Norris and his header was saved by Buchan but Nico Marchi followed up to score. A Marchi cross was just too high for Duncan and he headed the ball wide.

Biskup caught Thomson off his line with a chip shot but it dipped over the bar. Donaldson made a good tackle to get the ball back to Thomson as Close looked set to score. Walker did well to carve out a chance for Campbell but he fired his shot wide.

The visitors gave themselves a lifeline in 64 minutes when they pulled a goal back, Simpson crossed the ball in from the left and Jindrich Biskup swept the ball past Thomson.

Close so his rising shot from 20 yards go narrowly over the bar. With 66 minutes gone Zander Davidson restored his side’s three goal advantage when he ran onto a long clearance before slipping the ball under Buchan from an acute angle.

A minute later the visitors were back in it again when a mistake by Donaldson allowed Presly a shot at goal, Thomson made a good save but Biskup tapped home the loose ball.

With 72 minutes gone Presly had a shot blocked before being cleared. Minutes later a Biskup strike was also blocked before being played to safety.

Walker ran onto a clearance from Thomson before chipping the ball over the advancing keeper but his strike came back off the crossbar before being cleared. Just on time a 20 yard strike from

Biskup went narrowly wide. Two minutes into injury time Leith was clean through for Banchory but Thomson made a superb save.

This was a huge three points for Longside who continue to climb up the table.

Two cheap goals again meant the game wasn’t safe until the final whistle, after going three goals up they should have been able to kill the game off. Kevin Norris was probably Longside’s best player but Whyte and Walker weren’t far behind, Zander Davidson was also a constant threat throughout.

Longside travel to play Dyce Juniors on Saturday in the PMAC Group Superleague, kick-off 2pm.
