BUCHANHAVEN Hearts were celebrating an 8-1 victory over Whitehills in their final Grill League Cup section 5 match.
The triumphant home side Hearts took the game to Whitehills straight from the kick off and should have scored when Stuart hit the goalkeeper Mackie from only eight yards out.
But the first goal wasn’t long in coming after chance after chance was being created by a determined Hearts team.
When a Ritchie corner kick found Michael Bruce at the far post, he coolly headed home to put Hearts 1-0 ahead.
Buchanhaven kept on pounding the Whitehills goal and were rewarded with a second goal when Dane Ballard collect the ball with his back to goal, before calmly turning Gray on the 18 yard box and smashing the ball passed Mackie to make it 2-0.
Ritchie was involved in everything good that Hearts was doing and he again put Ballard in to shoot passed Mackie to make it 3-0. Hearts pressure was relentless but they couldn’t add to there tally which their play deserved with half time approaching.
Hearts continued where they had left off and put the Whitehills under siege yet again - Mackie this time saving from Ballard’s shot, then Doug Stuart just shooting wide after good work from McLeod.
The home side forced a corner and from the resulting corner kick Fraser forced the ball home from eight yards to make it 4-0. Doug Stuart made it 5-0 when he latched onto a through ball to shoot passed Mackie and he quickly got his second goal with a good piece of skill when he volleyed home with his left foot to make it 6-0.
Whitehills pulled a consolation goal back when slack play saw Watt lob the ball over Bennett in the Hearts goal, but Hearts weren’t finished with the scoring just yet and good play down the left saw Bruce find McLeod who beat his man with ease and his cross was side footed home by the ever alert Ballard to complete his hat-trick.
Ballard then got his fourth goal of the game when a long kick out from Bennett saw Gray put under pressure from Ballard and the striker was on to it in a flash to shoot passed Mackie to make it 8-1 & complete an excellent afternoon for Hearts.
This really was and excellent team performance from Hearts with Ballard taking a lot of the plaudits with a devastating display in the art of finishing which resulted in him scoring four goals.
But it was great play from the whole team with some excellent football being played amd on another day with the continuous volume of chances created the score line could well have been into double figures.
Whitehills didn’t really trouble Hearts despite them being on a decent run themselves and the home side ran out comfortable winners on the day.
Their next game is also at home to Longside in a G.A. Engineering Cup encounter on Saturday (kick off 2pm) which will be a lot tougher game for Hearts against their Superleague neighbours and they will looking to improve on their last showing against Longside.
