Substitute Jordan Brown was the hero for the Blue Toon after heading the 86th minute goal.

The equaliser helped ease the pain of last week’s devastating defeat and keep Peterhead mid-table.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, manager Jim McInally praised the former Aberdeen youngster and said he was delighted that he had scored for the side.

“Jordan is a great lad and works really hard and I was so happy for him,” he said.

“In training he was excellent, scoring time after time and when we had to go and get an equaliser he just instantly came into my mind.

“I felt that if anyone could get us a goal it would be Jordan as he’s so good at getting from midfield to the front,” he said.

McInally says that his efforts have now left him with a selection dilemma for the next game.

As predicted by the manager, Brechin were ready for their Blue Toon re-match, Peterhead having sent them out of the Challenge Cup just ten days earlier.

“We were really quite poor until they scored and then we threw caution to the wind and it seemed to pay off,” said the boss.

“We certainly didn’t deserve to lose the game, but I was panicking after we equalised.

“However, without playing particularly well it was good to come away with something from the game,” he said.

Peterhead are now gearing up for the quarter-final of the Petrofac Training Cup where they will take on Livingston at Balmoor on Saturday.

Peterhead goalie Graeme Smith says his side are up for the challenge.

“The teams that we’ve come up against so far have been hard teams but as a unit we’ve defended well and we’ve got guys up top that can score goals.

“We know Livingston will be a different proposition, they’re well organised and more importantly they’re full time – it’ll be a very, very tough game but we’ve beaten full time teams
