Peterhead will face former League Two opponents Montrose in the first round of the Scottish Challenge Cup.
The game is due to be held at Links Park on the weekend beginning Saturday, July 26.
The draw, which also paired Rangers with Hibs in the first round’s glamour tie, could scupper the Blue Toon’s preseason schedule as a friendly with the Gable Endies was already on the books for Tuesday, July 15.
Peterhead won three of their four clashes with Montrose last season and boss Jim McInally is pleased with the draw.
The manager said: “It would have been better if we were drawn at home obviously but we know Montrose quite well.
“I don’t think they’ve made a lot of changes from last year and neither have we.
“So it’s a good draw in one way but a bad draw in another - it knackers my preseason a wee bit.”
He added that although the game is away from Balmoor, it is relatively close for travelling fans and expects a strong support.
In the four meetings between the sides last season Peterhead triumphed three times, netting 11 times and conceding only four goals.
McInally will be hopeful hitman Rory McAllister can continue last season’s incredible goal-scoring form.
The striker scored seven times against the Gable Endies.
