Smith earned a corner for Deveronside, Thompson’s kick was punched clear by Pennet but only as far as Scott Davidson but he fired his shot well over the bar.

Zander Davidson went clear on the left at the start of the second half and his shot was blocked before it eventually fell for Duncan but his shot was brilliantly saved by Tait.

The home side took the lead in 49 minutes when the Longside defence failed to get the ball clear, Pennet made a good save to deny Smith but Liam Kerr followed up to score.

A 35-yard free kick from McLeay was scrambled clear for a corner, Thompson’s kick was bouncing about in the danger area before Gavin Murdo saw his shot come back off the post before being cleared.

King weaved his way into the box and his cross was bravely saved by Pennet.

The visitors equalised in 65 minutes when Derek Paterson picked up the ball 25 yards out before crashing it into the roof of the net.

Two minutes later they took the lead when Norris went up with Tait for a high ball it broke to Paul Campbell and he volleyed the ball home.

Longside survived an amazing goalmouth scramble which saw the ball hit the bar, cleared off the line and Pennet made two vital blocks.

The visitors had a fair bit of defending to do in the closing minutes but held on for victory and a vital three points.
