PETERHEAD Chess Club is on the lookout for new players to join its ranks.

Whether young or old, experienced or newcomer to the game, the club would be interested to hear from you.

Coaching will be given as well as the chance to challenge existing members to a game. Further details can be found at

The Buchan side travelled to Aberdeen and Newmachar recently with mixed results.

In the allegro tournament they played the Bon Accord Bishops in two half-hour games. The first gave Peterhead a shock 2.5-1.5 win thanks to wins by Chris Rose and an unlikely draw from Kevin Pert.

However, the Bishops’ form returned for the second leg with a comfortable 3-1 win.

It was then on to Newmachar for a North East Scotland league game. Results went generally to grading with a 2-2 draw but Peterhead should have clinched a vital win when Malcolm MacMillan misjudged his endgame and only drew when a win looked certain.

The club continues to meet every Wednesday from 7pm at the Albert Hotel, Queen Street, Peterhead, and now looks towards a busy March with several home and away matches.
