Michael Paterson of Buchan Indoor Bowling Club at Mintlaw won silver in the fours team event after being beaten in the final by the other Scottish team.

Unfortunately, he didn’t do quite so well in the triples where his team came fifth.

This was the second time Michael has played in this international series where he won two silver medals last year. He was selected to play for the Under 18 Scotland team after a series of trials were held earlier in the year. There were a total of eight teams of five players from across the whole of the British Isles.

The two Scottish teams finished third and fourth overall, behind the two English teams who claimed the top two places. Both the Scottish teams played excellent bowls throughout and were only just pipped at the post in the games they did lose.

The many spectators were treated to an excellent two days of bowling by all the young players from Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. It was good to catch up with old friends and also to have a few drinks with some new ones.

If any youngsters are interested in playing bowls, the Buchan Indoor Bowling Club have a very successful junior section with coaching sessions being held on Friday evenings at 8.30pm.
