Lent is the season of the church year where, traditionally, Christians prepare for the celebration of Easter by reflecting on their lives and their relationship with God.

This year Easter falls on April 24 and so Lent begins on March 9, Ash Wednesday.

During this period, Deer Parish Church is offering a series of Lent Discussion Groups to help us to reflect on our Christian living.

The theme of the series is ‘Spot the Difference’, a discussion of the ways in which we might be recognisable to others as Christians. No special knowledge is required for participation and the discussions are open to anyone who is interested.

Six groups will meet on different days of the week at different times (morning, afternoon and evening) and at different locations (Mintlaw, Stuartfield and Old Deer), so you can choose to join whichever group is most convenient for you. For more information, please contact the Rev. Sheila Kirk on 01771-623582.

Peterhead Fisherman’s Mission has the Night Cap service on Sunday, March 6, at 8pm. This being the first Sunday of the month should be a great Songs of Praise evening sharing in the joy of singing the grand old Gospel hymns in the Sankey and Redemption traditions.

On Monday, March 7, Peterhead Old Parish Church Senior Ladies’ Fellowship will be meeting at 2pm in the upstairs hall when an Antiques Road Show is to be featured.

The next meeting of Peterhead St. Andrew’s Parish Church Guild is on Wednesday, March 9, at 7.30pm, when the guests are to be Mr. and Mrs. Ian Sutherland who will share in a Gospel Evening.

Looking ahead to the month of April two advance notices are given – On Thursday, April 14, Peterhead St. Andrew’s Church is to be having a Rag-Bagging Day.

Secondly, on Thursday, April 28, there is to be a further joint effort on the part of some of the Peterhead churches with a concert on behalf of Christian Aid. This is to be held in the Palace Hotel that night commencing at 7.30pm.
