Two Buchan butchers have been given awards for their creative meat products.
Ewan Morrice won a Gold award for his steak and cheddar burger and Bert Fowlie butchers won silver for their smokey pork sausage, at the 2012 Craft Butcher awards speciality sausage and burger.
Ewan Morrice butchers in Stuartfield came up with the steak and cheese receipt, which mixes local cheese and steak mince together to make a burger. Ewan said: “It’s was another one to add to the wall, I’ll have to find some space.”
Bert Fowlie butchers of Strichen had butcher Bill Emlay come up with he winning product, which is a pork sausage mixed with their special BBQ sauce. Bill said: “It was something I fancied trying and it seemed to work. I like to experiment, trying new ideas so your regular customers always get a change.”
The event organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders attracted an entry of almost 250 products.
