AN Oldmeldrum schoolboy saved his pocket money to donate it to the RNLI after Banff and Buchan College took part in an exercise with Peterhead lifeboat.

Peter Smith was the winner of an engineering challenge sponsored by Schlumberger and organised by the college and as part of the prize he took part in a training exercise with the college’s RIB craft and Peterhead lifeboat and volunteer crew.

In a letter of thanks, Peter said he had enjoyed a ‘great day out’ and that it was the first time he had been involved with a lifeboat and it was kind of them to give up a day to look after them. Peter also asked for the college to pass on his donation to Peterhead RNLI.

As regards the training exercise, David Cook, assistant princial of Banff and Buchan College, said it was improtant that the nautical department of the college was made aware of the capabilities and technology used to save lives at sea in RNLI lifeboat rescues and that the teams involved in the exercise had worked very well together.
