Strichen Butchers have a taste of national success

Strichen butchers Bert Fowlie have seen their quality products recognised at a national level in the 2015 Scottish Craft Butcher Awards.

Bert Fowlie received awards in the recent evaluation for beefburgers and speciality savoury products that was judged at the City of Glasgow College last month.

Their success came with Gold Award for their North Sea Fish Pie, Steak Pie, Macaroni Pie, Steak & Stilton Pie, Mince & Mealie Pie and for their Beefburger.

Almost 300 products from all across Scotland were delivered to the City of Glasgow College where they were judged by a team of experts under the supervision of Craft Butchers Chief Executive Douglas Scott.

The best Savoury Pastry products were established on the day but the two best beefburgers from each of five regions of Scotland were subsequently mystery shopped and then judged by the chef and staff at Carfraemill Hotel in the Scottish Borders.

The results of the 2015 Scottish Craft Butcher Awards were announced at the Scottish Meat Trade Fair in Perth on Sunday, May 10.
